Wilson Trumble’s Wonderfully Silly Day
By Brenda B. Covert |
1 Wilson
Trumble woke up with a wonderfully silly idea. After a moment of
contemplation, he made his decision and rolled out of bed. He
made his way to the kitchen, where he greeted Gertie with a pat
on the head. He thought a brief moment before a smile spread
across his face.
2
"There once was a shih-tzu named Gertie Who sometimes got awfully dirty. When she rolled in some poo, All the folks said, ‘P.U.! That dog doesn't smell very purty!'" |
3 "Woof!
Woof!" Gertie replied, licking Wilson's hand before bounding into
the kitchen. Her toenails clicked at a fast pace until she slid
to a stop and sat beside her empty food dish looking expectantly
at her master.
4 Finally,
having fed the dog some canned food and himself a toaster pastry,
Wilson made his way outside to greet the morning.
5
"There once was a sunshiny day That caused Wilson Trumble to say, ‘Though I must go to work As a poor mailroom clerk, I will lim'rick my troubles away!'" |
6 The
highway was choked with employees hurrying to their workplaces.
Whistling off-key, Wilson didn't let the traffic bother him. His
mind was busy putting possible rhymes together. It wouldn't do to
be caught off guard and have nothing to say!
7 The
mailroom clerks couldn't remember when they last enjoyed such a
lighthearted day. Wilson kept them in stitches. Ann and Harvey
tried to follow his lead, but they kept cracking up! They decided
to take a lunch break together. It was such fun to order lunch.
The server nearly split her sides when Wilson placed his
order.
8
"I think that I'll probably die If I can't have tuna on rye. Add some chips, if you please. Bring us all some iced teas, For that's all that my money can buy!" |
9 Ann
studied the menu board before lamenting, "I can't think of
anything that rhymes with pumpernickel!"
10 Wilson
tilted his head and considered the situation. Then the corners of
his mouth curled up, and his eyes gleamed with cleverness.
11
"Right now Ann would like pumpernickel, But the woman is known to be fickle. Therefore, I've a hunch, She'll choose whole wheat for lunch, Served up with a crunchy dill pickle." |
12 At
the day's end, Wilson slid between the sheets and let out a sigh.
He closed his eyes and listened to Gertie settle into her doggie
bed near the door.
13
"The time has now come to count sheep As over a fence they each leap. I had a good day, May all days be that way, And I hope I'll soon be fast asleep." |
